RICHMOND, Va. –  The Virginia National Guard Association, Inc. is proud to announce that U.S. Congressman Robert “Rob” Wittman (R-VA-01) will be the Keynote Speaker at the 2023 Virginia National Guard Conference. The conference will be held on April 29, 2023, in Williamsburg, Virginia, and Rep. Wittman will be the keynote speaker during the Joint Education Session.

According to Andrew J. Czaplicki, Virginia National Guard Association president, “We are absolutely ecstatic to welcome Congressman Wittman to this year’s conference. Representative Wittman is a powerful advocate for the military and will be able to provide unique and valuable insight to today’s dynamic global environment and the National Guard’s role in the coming years.”

Congressman Wittman has served the First Congressional District of Virginia in the U.S. Congress since 2007. He currently serves as the Vice Chair of the House Armed Services Committee. On the committee, he serves as the Chair of the Tactical Air and Land Forces Subcomittee. He previously served as the Chair and Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Seapower and Projection Forces, Chair of the Subcommittee on Readiness, and Ranking Member and Chair of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations.

According to his biography, “Congressman Wittman also currently serves on the House Select Committee between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party where he works with his colleagues on both sides of the aisle to take measures that will counter the [Chinese Communist Party’s] malicious agenda and military build-up as well as confront the [Chinese Communist Party’s] use of diplomatic and economic coercion around the world.”

“Congressman Wittman is a key voice on key defense issues in Congress,” said Sarah Newsome, Communications Director for Congressman Wittman. “Along with his colleagues, he is a consistent champion of our Nation’s warfighters and veterans.”

Before serving in Congress, Rep. Wittman spent 26 years working in state government, including as Field Director for the Virginia Health Department’s Division of Shellfish Sanitation. He holds a Ph.D. in Public Policy and Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University, a Master of Public Health degree in Health Policy and Administration from the University of North Carolina, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Virginia Tech.

“We are truly honored by Congressman Wittman’s willingness to serve as our keynote speaker this year,” said Czaplicki. “Representative Wittman is a true public servant, and we look forward to hearing his insights and perspectives on the future of the National Guard.”
