Virginia National Guard Historical Foundation (VNGHF)

The purpose of the VNGHF is to provide the guidance, financial oversight and leadership that will support:

a. A Virginia National Guard (VNG) Museum at the Virginia War Memorial that provides for the recovery, preservation, display and explanation of historically significant artifacts that document combat and military operations in which the VNG has been and continues to be an active participant. This site will also serve as a world-class research center for all Virginians to use in their search for family military history records.

b. Professional development for the Soldiers and Airmen of the Virginia National Guard as well as members of all services in the Commonwealth.

c. A Joint Force Headquarters – Virginia (JFHQ) Static Display of significant large scale military items as well as support the rotation of educational materials from the Museum to ensure JFHQ staff and visitors are educated in significant VNG events and history.

d. Army and Air Unit-level Displays/exhibits in local armories/facilities that will be focused on unit-specific history and ensure unit members understand and appreciate the lineage and honors associated.

The Virginia National Guard Historic Foundation is a 501 (C3) nonprofit organization. They are sustained by private donations. Your support is welcomed.

What your financial donation to the Virginia National Guard Historical Foundation will be used for:

  • Building a Virginia National Guard Museum. For decades, members and friends of the Virginia National Guard have asked for a museum to highlight the distinguished history of our organization. The time has finally arrived and building a museum to tell the story of our soldiers from Jamestown to today is our highest priority.

  • Recovering and refurbishing historically significant artifacts. Support from donations will help purchase the supplies and materials needed by our volunteers to refurbish and preserve such large sized artifacts as our M-42 Duster (Vietnam Era), M-4 Sherman tank (WWII), F-84 Thunderstreak jet fighter (1950s), as well as a number of pieces from the Global War on Terrorism.

  • Supporting the digitization of our historical documents to allow on-line access to professional and private researchers to our historical records. Among our historical archives are such rare items as the original February 1941 mobilization roster for the Virginia National Guard, the 1917 enlistment records for many of the Virginia units preparing for WWI, and the 1944-45 After Action Reports of the 111th Field Artillery.

  • Developing educational materials that can be shared throughout the state. These will help tell the story of the Virginia National Guard in war and in peace.
